Notre cycle de conférences – organisé en partenariat avec l’ambassade de France en Grande Bretagne /et l‘Institut Français au RU – sur les BRICs a été inauguré le 11 décembre dernier avec une première conférence consacrée à la Chine sur le thème :
China 2020: What Scenarios for the Future?
After nearly three decades of uninterrupted economic expansion, China is modernizing at an astonishing rate. The People’s Republic of China has emerged as a major economic power in the global community and has become a key international player with a crucial role and growing responsibilities. For years to come China’s steady growth will certainly present complex policy challenges on the domestic side. It also creates a shift in the international balance of powers and consequently new challenges for the rest of the world.In 2020, what will China look like? Will the world witness the rise of a democratic China at ease with a strong civil society and a truly representative political system? Or will China embrace an even more authoritarian and self-assured regime with a thriving free market economy? What will be the state of China’s relations with its neighbours? How will evolve the role of China within the international community? What would be the most plausible scenarios of China in 2020?

La conférence a eu lieu dans la magnifique bibliothèque de l’Institut français de Londres à South Kensigton. Une salle comble composée d’un public mixte franco-anglais n’a laissé que peu de répit aux trois intervenants lors des Q&As animées.
