SciencesPo Alumni UK – Assia de Juniac

August 12, 2008

Chers amis, Dear friends,

It is with great sadness that we inform you that Assia de Juniac has passed away at the age of 89.

As most of you are aware, Baroness de Juniac was Presidente d’honneur of Sciences Po Alumni UK; Assia was the founder of our alumni association in the United Kingdom many many years ago.

Assia was an example for and an inspiration to many of us, given her intellectual sharpness, social wit, charisma and humanness.

Many of us attended Sciences Po drinks at her house in Chelsea and in the last few years we held our AGM under her roof and with her blessing. In the 80s and before then, she organised a host of events for Sciences Po alumni including with prominent French politicians.

She attended religiously all of our gatherings when she was not travelling (which despite her age she continued to do regularly) and most recently our dinners with Pierre-Henri and Michael, which she enjoyed thoroughly.

Assia was looking forward to our charity Gala on 25 September and notably to discussing the positioning of Sciences Po with Richard.

Over the years, she has remained a key member of the French community in the UK.

Assia was a very dear friend which we will miss greatly.

I understand that her funeral will be held in France in strict family intimacy; hopefully a commemoration will take place in London in the coming weeks.

Vous laissant avec une pensée émue et une prière pour notre amie chère.

Stéphane Rambosson
President, SciencesPo Alumni UK
