*** Press Release ***
London – 22 September 2008
The UK alumni of Sciences Po – the leading French university – have established a charity to fund scholarships for exceptional French and UK students. Established in Paris in 1872 to modernise the training of politicians, Sciences Po is “the grandest of the grandes écoles which, since Napoleon, have provided France with its political, administrative and business elite”. Alumni include 28 past and present French Prime ministers and Presidents (François Mitterrand, Jacques Chirac and Nicolas Sarkozy amongst them) and 14 CEOs of France’s largest 40 companies.
The charity – named the Sciences Po Alumni UK Charity Trust – will be officially launched on 25th September 2008 with a Gala Dinner at the Royal Automobile Club on Pall Mall. The Gala Dinner will be under the patronage of French Ambassador Maurice Gourdault-Montagne, and co-chaired by Sciences Po Director Richard Descoings and the Director of the London School of Economics, Sir Howard Davies. The Gala Dinner will bring together French and British representatives of business and academia, Sciences Po alumni and influential members of the 300,000-strong French community in London.
All proceeds will go towards the Sciences Po UK Scholarship Fund. The Scholarship Fund will enable Sciences Po students to study in the UK and UK-based students to study at Sciences Po. Sciences Po already has exchange programmes with LSE and Oxford in the UK, and Harvard, Colombia, Princeton and Berkeley in the US. The long term aim is to reinforce Sciences Po’s longstanding cosmopolitan tradition and its commitment to promote social mobility. Sciences Po is the most international of all French universities, with one third of its 6,700 students coming from overseas.
The event will be sponsored by the London and Paris offices of Gide Loyrette Nouel (a French-origin global law firm), International SOS (a world leading provider of medical assistance, international healthcare and security services), Media Tree (a global financial roadshow and conference expert) and Veni Partners (a Franco-British specialist executive search firm focused on financial services).
Cécile d’Angelin, Trustee of Sciences Po Alumni UK Charity Trust said:
“We are delighted to launch The Sciences Po Alumni UK Charity Trust today which is primarily designed to help fund Sciences Po students who wish to come and study on an exchange programme to the UK. The idea originated over a year ago when the Sciences Po UK Alumni team discussed ways of extending the work done by Richard Descoings and his team in Paris to transform Sciences Po into a world class academic institution competing with the very best universities in the world to attract the best students. We hope that this initiative will further strengthen the links between Sciences Po Paris and the UK academia and encourage more students to visit both our great academic institutions.”

We would like to thank all of those who have registered for the event and our sponsors:
Dear Friends, Cher Amis,
A memorial service for our dear friend, Assia de Juniac, who was Honorary Chairwoman of Sciences Po Alumni UK and an inspiration for many of us, will be held on Thursday 2nd October at 6.00pm.
The service will be made by our common friend Cannon Brockie at Our Most Holy Redeemer and St Thomas More, 7 Cheyne Row, Chelsea (SW3 5HS) (nearest tubes South Kensington and Sloane Square) where some of us sometimes met Assia on Sunday morning.
I do hope that many of you will join in to cherish her memory; please let me know if you intend to come.
In the meantime, I look forward to seeing many at our Sciences Po Alumni UK charity gala this coming Thursday 25 September where we will also celebrate Assia’s memory.
Amicalement,
Stéphane Rambosson
President, SciencesPo Alumni UK

For those of you who are on Facebook, you can join the SciencesPo Alumni UK group.
This group aims at bringing together the SciencesPo alumni community living in the UK. It is also an opportunity to reconnect with old friends and former students from SciencesPo.
This group is also a great way to keep in touch with us and the social activities we organise all year.
It is still a work in progress and a rather a small group. So join us and help us grow the SciencesPo Alumni UK community on Facebook!
