Tuesday 31 March 2009 – 07.30pm – The Sciences Po Alumni UK in partnership with the French Institute in London would like to invite you to:
TONY BLAIR: A MAN OF DESTINY
The talk will be introduced by Baroness Shephard of Northwold, former Secretary of State and MP.
Dr Sophie Loussouarn will present her new book, L’odyssée politique de Tony Blair, and will discuss the influence of Tony Blair on French politics from all sides.
Paradoxically, Nicolas Sarkozy as well as Ségolène Royal drew inspiration from the speeches of Tony Blair for the presidential campaign. Blair was invited at the National Convention of the UMP on January 14th 2008 and he declared that he was a centre left politician: “in the United States, I would be a democrat. In the United Kingdom, I am Labour. In France, I would probably be in the Cabinet. I would be a socialist but I would support those who mean to change it”. What will come out of his visit to President Obama who holds him as a role model?
Dr Sophie LOUSSOUARN is an alumna of the Ecole Normale Supérieure (Ulm) and Oxford (Wadham College). She graduated from Sciences Po in 1992 and is an expert on British politics and economics. She lectures at the University of Amiens in France and at the University of Alicante in Spain. She wrote a textbook on British institutions Definitely British Absolutely American and a book on the British Economy since 1945.
