As the race to Christmas is now well and truly on, Sciences Po Alumni UK is very pleased to be associated to the visit of His Excellency Sir Peter Westmacott, British Ambassador to France, at Sciences Po on 30 November 2010 in Paris.

Hosted and organised by Sciences Po Alumni, this event will take the form of a conference-debate and will be followed by an informal cocktail reception.

Held in the Amphithéâtre Caquot (Sciences Po, 28 Rue des Saints Pères, Paris VIIè), the event will start at 7:15pm (CET). If you are interested in registering or for further details, please do let us know or email vacmanifs@sciences-po.asso.fr.

Maurice Gourdault Montagne receives Legion d’Honneur

French Ambassador to the UK Maurice Gourdault Montagne has been awarded the Légion d’Honneur (national Order of the Legion of Honour) in France.  The Légion d’Honneur or Ordre national de la Légion d’honneur is the highest decoration in France.

His Excellency Maurice Gourdault Montagne is a Sciences Po Alumnus who brings his support to numerous Sciences po Alumni UK activities – like our annual Charity Gala Dinner.

OF all the things you might expect to see in a language-teaching classroom, a piano is perhaps not high on the list. But that’s one of the most noticeable objects in Yalan Chuang’s office in King’s Cross, where she teaches businesspeople Chinese. “It is a very musical language, some words are spoken like a soprano and other like an alto,” she explains. Then idea came about from her first office, in what used to be Holy Trinity Church in South Kensington, where she inherited a grand piano. It has since become a vital part of her method.

Science Po Alumnus and Goldman Sachs Hedge Fund Head Flamand Said to Start Own Firm

According to press reports, Sciences Po Alumnus (EF95) Pierre Henri Flamand, head of Goldman Sachs Hedge Fund, is said to start own firm.

Mr Flamand has worked at Goldman Sachs for 15 years and has run Goldman Sachs Principal Strategies, part of its asset management unit, from London since 2007. The unit was transformed under his leadership into a hedge fund that managed $7bn of investments in 2008.

Flamand is setting up his own fund as Wall Street pay and proprietary trading come under increased scrutiny from lawmakers.

The Sciences Po Alumni UK organised a dinner in London last week with Morgan Stanley banker Michael Zaoui, Goldman Sachs’s commodities boss Isabelle Ealet , ex-Lehman banker and now at boutique Ondra Partners’ Benoit d’AngelinSchlumberger family member Bertrand Coste, fomer French Foreign Minister Hubert Védrine, Sciences Po director Richard Descoings , French Ambassador Maurice Gourdault-Montagne, Goldman’s Charles de Croisset and the headhunter Veni’s Stéphane Rambosson.
